Mention Chincoteague Island, Virginia, and you’re likely to be asked, “Isn’t that where those ponies are?” The answer is “yes.”

When men grow up healthy, there’s a sense of being invulnerable. Most men, typically, well into their 40s, go through most of their life doing what is required to be a man: get a job, find a partner, buy a house, have children.

Now in its fifth year, Project New Hope, Inc., covers a lot of ground, both in geographical regions and the multiple generations of people it serves. The nonprofit agency was formed in 2011 to provide free weekend retreats to military veterans and their families.

The platter was covered with what resembled small piles of leaves from a fall lawn raking. The brown, green and black heaps hardly invited sniffing, much less tasting. Yet sniff and taste I did.

Impaling a bright red strawberry on the end of a wooden shish kebab skewer, I held the fruit under a gushing fountain of milk chocolate, then popped it into my eager mouth.

Shrewsbury – Shrewsbury resident Kevin Weigold, a police officer with the Worcester State University Police Department (WSUPD), recently was awarded the Sean Collier Award for Innovations in Community Oriented Policing by the Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (MACLEA). 

Northborough - Senior citizens who have questions about their iPhones, iPads, Macs and PCs can find answers at Technology Afternoons, held from 2:15 to 4 p.m., two Thursdays a month at the Northborough Senior Center. Eileen Parker, Algonquin Regional High School math teacher, leads the school’s Community Action Program (CAP), which provides student volunteers for a variety of activities, including Technology Afternoons.
