Enjoying a hot shower, buying meat at a market or strolling through a village may seem like commonplace occurrences. But in the African country of Uganda, these experiences are likely to be unlike life as you’re used to living it.

In Savannah, Georgia, the sun heats the temperature into the pleasant 50s on most days. That’s perfect for strolling through what has been described as one of the loveliest cities in the world.

Marjorie Platt, 80 knows the benefits of Social Security. But so does Mark Walker, 57, who depends on the program’s disability benefits, or Susan Rummel, 63, who has resorted to early benefits to keep her financially afloat.

Northborough - Ande Lockwood was first taught how to knit by a college friend and has never stopped creating and surrounding herself with yarn. Lockwood is the current owner of Craftworks in Northborough, which is a yarn and fiber shop and artisan cooperative. The original store opened in 1979 and has since expanded in a new location to include the yarn shop.

World-class museums stand shoulder-to-shoulder with flower markets festooned by rainbows of color. People crowded into cafes and pubs chat, sip coffee and other beverages and watch the passing traffic, which consists of as many bicycles as automobiles. This is the setting in one of the greatest small cities in the world, which is the capital of one of the smallest countries in Europe. But anything that the Netherlands may lack in dimension – it’s about twice the size of Massachusetts – it more than makes up in diversity.

Hudson - John Devereaux logs his daily runs in notebooks which he keeps in his Hudson home. Those notebooks, some almost a decade old, now form a large collection chronicling over 3,500 runs through Hudson.

The hiking trail winds through a lush rain forest. Only a trickle of sunlight makes its way through the thick tree canopy above, from which a chorus of birds entertains with a symphony of song.
